Leshalev Typeface

After learning about the basics of type and the different parts of a letterform, we were instructed to find inspiration for us to use to design our own typeface. Being Jewish, I was immediately drawn to the sharp contrast of the thick and thin strokes of the Hebrew alphabet. Using that drastic contrast, I began to incorporate different characteristics of Hebrew letters into the English alphabet letterforms. As I was finalizing my typeface, I decided to use a Hebrew word as the name for this typeface. I chose the Hebrew word “לשלב" (pronounced leshalev) because of its meaning, which is “to mesh", which fits my typeface as it is a meshing of the English alphabet with characteristics of Hebrew.
